Job Description:
We’re seeking skilled commercial professionals with experience in the (petro)chemical business, and a keen sustainability and commercial mindset, to work in a dynamic and exciting Chemicals business that makes key contributions to the bottom line.
Where you fit in
As business development manager, you will be responsible for identifying new value propositions, new applications and new customers for our solvents, in close cooperation with the marketing, sales and technical teams. The Solvents business covers a wide range of products for use in a variety of applications, from pharmaceuticals, surfactants, and agro-chemicals, to furniture, paints, coatings and sealants, servicing customers through direct and indirect channels. What’s the role?
You will sit within our marketing organisation, in close contact with the sales and technical departments. Selling and implementing sustainable solutions together with our customers is a key part of the role. We want to transition from fossil to biobased and circular products with our customers. You will be developing new technical and customer value propositions, through deep understanding of the value chain, customer wishes, applications and product properties.
Much will depend on your ability to recognise internal and external challenges and opportunities, confidently juggling priorities and targets, and being able to understand vast amounts of data and market intelligence. You will be the main focal point to our R&D department, managing our portfolio of opportunities and setting priorities together with the rest of the marketing team and the technical team.
Other key challenges will include:
Execute Shell’s strategy of growth in performance chemical
Prepare our business for the future and the changes the energy transition will bring
Shape our customer value propositions with a customer-centric approach
Build close relationships with our customers to develop new products, (sustainable) solutions and applications together
Support the sales team in developing new customer relationships and selling (new) value propositions
Optimise enterprise value by working closely with R&D/technology
Strong communication skills are also going to be essential to this role as you confidently form long-lasting relationships with customers and internal key stakeholders within Marketing, Sales, Operations, Manufacturing & Technology.
What we need from you?
Alongside your proven experience in a commercial or relevant technical role in the petrochemical or chemical industry, we’re keen to talk to women and men with as many of the following as possible on your CV:
B2B commercial delivery in Chemicals or another relevant B2B environment
Proven strong analytical skills, financial acumen and excellent communication skills
Expertise in negotiating (complex) deals with large, global and direct key accounts
Marketing and/or sales experience
Technical knowledge of solvents and their applications
Master’s degree in a relevant field (commercial, business, technical, chemical). Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience is considered equivalent
